Honey Singh condemned for vulgar songs; sparks outrage on Twitter

Following extensive disapproval of Delhi gangrape victim’s death, a hotel in Gurgaon had to call off the New Year Eve performance by rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh.

Irked with the rapper’s songs which are invariably loaded with violent and abusive language, IPS officer Amitabh Thakur lodged an FIR. “These songs are vulgar, lewd, indecent and act as catalysts for crime against women,” Amitabh was quoted as saying.

Soon a petition was filed on the website change.org. The petition read, “These pornographic lyrics are unacceptable and it is because of women-hating sentiments like these that men think that it’s fine to do what they did on that bus…”

While everybody has been slamming Honey Singh for using explicit language in his songs, thereby leaving a negative impact on the young minds, his publicist came to his rescue. He said, “These are not Honey Singh’s songs. He has never ever composed and written such songs. This is an attempt to malign him by people who are jealous of him.”

Here’s what people have been tweeting:

Shailesh Patrikar ‏@humbleguy12

FIR lodged against Honey Singh by Anurag Thakur, an IPS officer, he’s the reason why many people in India do not want to be an IPS officer

Pallav P Narang ‏@ThePallav

Apparently rapes are caused by Honey Singh and if we ban him everything will be OK. This govt. Surely has the best spin doctors…

So tell me again, how is gagging Honey Singh for being misogynistic different from banning Satanic Verses for being anti-Muslim?

Ramakrishnan ‏@arian_tweets

Can’t understand this sudden Yo-Yo Honey Singh sensationalism. Almost all Selvaraghavan’s movies have such lyrics in them.

Tej ‏@dvantej

RT: Barkha Dutt & Vir Sanghvi were most active in banning Honey Singh. Both tainted by Radia tapes. Trying too hard to get public vote.

Mrs.Abhimanyu Singh ‏@neha_AZian

If honey singh is banned! then so should sunny leone be!

Asma Rizwan ‏@asmariz

why there has been no mention of these filthy songs degrading women & glorifying sexual assault &rape, in mainstream media?Honey singh

Amein Zahid ‏@ameinzahid

Honey Singh’s lyrics are no different from any other hip hop artist. Does’nt make sense to isolate him.
